Beaconsfield denied victory at home to Hurst
By Sam Musk
Despite dominating their top-of-the table match at home to Hurst, Beaconsfield were denied victory in Thames Valley League Division 2B on Saturday.
Hurst's last-wicket pair defied Beaconsfield's attack for the last 12 overs, during which there was a dropped catch, to hang on for a draw.
The visitors finished on 163-9 from 48 overs, in reply to Beaconsfield's 246-6 from 52.
Choosing to bat first, Beaconsfield got off to a great start with skipper Adam Francis (59 from 78 balls) and Zia Ashraf (51) adding 119 for the first wicket from 25 overs.
David Heavyside (34) and Johnny Bowers (30) added the acceleration to give the hosts an impressive total.
Hurst never got close, thanks to another outstanding display by Joe Bracey.
The off-spinner followed his six wickets against Reading the previous week with figures of 7-70 from 24 overs, bowling throughout the innings.
But he could not dismiss either of Hurst's final pair of Chris McCarthy (37no) or Nick Reynolds, who survived 31 balls for one not out as the visitors survived.
Beaconsfield, who trail four points behind new leaders Henley 2nd, visit Aldershot this Saturday.
