Good win against GX for U9's

U9's Bash GX
Our final league game of the season, for the Bash team, was against local rivals Gerrards Cross. It was unusual for the boys to play a match on a sunny day! Perfect cricketing weather.
Having lost the toss, GX decided to put us into bat first. The opening pair of James and Armaan batted cautiously, but sensibly only losing one wicket against some good bowling. They returned with the score on 210 off 4 overs.
The second pair of Finn and Zac accelerated the score further. Zac hitting a couple of nice fours scoring a hefty 16 runs and not getting out. Helped out by some wides and no balls the pair put on 22 runs to take the score to 232 off 8 overs.
Enter the third pair of Kaian and Lewis. The field was set close to prevent any quick singles. So naturally Kaian launches the first ball back over the bowlers head for 4 to which the fielders all start saying "spread out to the boundary!". This resulted in a lot of singles and twos and with the help of further wides the pair pushed the score up to 252 off 12 overs.
The fourth pair of Curran and Bertie batted beautifully. After negotiating the first over from an unusually slow bowler the pair soon found their rhythm. A couple of smashed fours by Curran moved the total onto 270 off 16 overs.
The final pair were Josh and Gordon who together batted sensibly against some good bowlers. GX had clearly held their better bowlers back to bowl towards the end. Despite this, Josh scored a healthy 19 runs. If it were not for some excellent fielding from GX to get a run out the score could have been even more than the 284 we ended up on. A great total to defend.
After the boys had filled themselves up with the match tea it was our turn to bowl.
Gordon opened the bowling taking a wicket with his first delivery. This set the tempo of the innings as after this GX were never in the game!
This was followed by tidy overs from Lewis, Armaan and Zac. The next set of 4 overs were bowled by Finn, Bertie, Kaian and Armaan. Each of them picking up a wicket. By the end of the 8th over we had taken 7 wickets which at this level is -42 runs.
At the half-way stage GX were just above the starting score of 200. At this point James was itching to get a bowl, but wasn't due to bowl his 2 overs til the back end of the innings. He came on to bowl economically and restricted the scoring further. At the end of their 20 overs the score was 201 having lost 13 wickets.
A special mention needs to go to Gordon who picked up 4 wickets for just 6 runs. Zac also had great figures of 2 wickets for no runs. All in all the boys bowled the best they have all season. There was not a single wide or no ball bowled in the final 10 overs which is quite remarkable.
Well done! A great team performance.
