Jeremy Suter 6-a-side Tournament

Jeremy Suter 6-a-side Tournament

Kerri McLeish31 May - 15:56

Bank holiday Monday, 8 teams playing 6-a-side cricket....

Bank holiday Monday, 8 teams playing 6-a-side cricket, lots of spectators, people catching up with old friends, much laughter, quite a bit of reminiscing, BBQ going, great match teas served, even sun (after the initial shower that put the bacon buttie BBQ out!). It was obviously the annual tournament in memory of Jeremy, who was taken from us far too early, aged just 23, in 2014.

All 8 teams were, as usual, connected to Jeremy – Swansea University Old Boys, Swansea University current, BCC Old Boys, BCC All Edges, BCC VI A, Sports Nut, Dr Challoner’s Grammar School and The Circus. It was really lovely to see so many faces return from previous years, as well as some new ones, for a relaxed and fun day. All the matches were played in good spirit and with good humour, with a touch(!) of competitiveness. Deserved finalists were BCC Old Boys and Swansea Uni current (which included 2 BCC players currently studying there), with Swansea Uni current emerging victorious.

It wasn’t just about having fun and remembering Jeremy, though. As ever, all profits from the day are going to two charities close to the Suter family’s heart - Bucks Youth Cricket Trust and Food for the Hungry. We raised over £2,500.

We owe a big thank you to all the volunteers who put in an awful lot of hours to make the day such a success. To:

  1. Hugh, Margot and Amy Suter for their amazing organisation and energy
  2. Barney Stay for preparing the grounds
  3. the team coordinators - David Heavyside for BCC Old Boys, Jono Wright for Swansea Uni Old Boys, Jake Wilson for BCC All Edges, Nick Buchanan for DCGS, Alex Gorton for BCC VI A, Mark Tennant for Sports Nut, Patrick Searing for The Circus and Kieran Grey for Swansea Uni current
  4. the umpires - George Townend, Phil Hayfield, Chas Sagoo, Chris Price, Simon Mellish, Mark Fenton, Mike Knox, Kevin Beaumont and Jeremy Spring
  5. the scorers - Edward Crossley, Mags Wilson and Michele Taylor
  6. MC Roobe Mitchell
  7. Match teas - Elaine and Martin Watts, Ann Tennant, Mary Bentall and friends
  8. BBQ-ers – Alex McLeish, Meg Cullen, Meg Pressley-Smith, Evie Easterbrook and Stewart Easterbrook
  9. Bar staff – Ollie Reed and Roobe Mitchell
  10. Raffle and silent auction coordinators - Michelle Slater, Margot and Amy Suter
  11. Raffle and silent auction prize donors

And, of course, all the players and spectators! Thank you all for your generosity.
