John Fordham

John Fordham

Michele Taylor15 May - 12:24

It is with great sadness that we let you know that John Fordham passed away on 8th May 2025, aged 82.

John Fordham, who captained Beaconsfield to their first two Thames Valley League titles, died on Thursday May 8th, at the age of 82.

John, accurate, underrated seam bowler, joined the club in the late 1970s and quickly established his place in the first team.

In 1970, he succeeded David Janes as First XI captain.

Beaconsfield won the TVCL championship in 1982 and 1983 under his calm, understated leadership.

He continued to captain the side until 1986 before handing over the reins to Paul Dolphin. In the attached photo, John is pictured front and centre.

By 1990 he had joined Marlow, nearer to his home in Marlow Bottom, and became one of the first captains of the Bucks Over 50s side.

Later he moved to High Wycombe CC, where he project-managed the building of their new pavilion.

His wife Jan died a number of years ago.

The club's sympathies go out to his son Stephen.
