Back to basics needed for BCC Blast!

A beautiful sunny evening saw capt Jack lose the toss and BCC were batting first. Tom M and Archie opened up and got us off to a very decent start, unfortunately losing a wicket in the last of their 4 overs but moving the score to 218 after 4 overs. Max H and Ayaan in next, and some tight bowling saw the run rate drop. Again only 1 wicket in the pair, and the score moved on to 221 after 8 overs. Next in were Callum and Miles, again we only lost 1 wicket, but again were finding it difficult to get away and the score was 224 after 12 overs. Some clear elements for training were starting to come through. Next in Ollie and Krish, a couple of wickets lost but we did manage to get bat on ball with Krish hitting 3 nice fours and we got the score onto 240 after 16. The final pair Barnaby and Capt Jack ran well, and scored couple of boundaries, but were pegged back by losing a couple of wickets. We ended up on 251 after our 20 overs.

Lessons to be learnt - calling was better, but we really didnt get bat on ball enough. We must learn to WATCH and WAIT for the ball rather than just hopeful swinging!

After snacks and drinks (thanks Diana) we were into the field and needed a wicket fuelled start. Unfortunately it was GX that started like a train, hitting 4 fours in the first over! They were on 242 after the first 4 overs, and almost at us! The second pairing gave us a chance, we took 3 wickets with Max taking a couple and they were 247 after 8, with Tom M unlucky to have a bowled wicket called no ball for his front foot - could we peg them back further? The simple answer was no, the next pair saw the score onto 281, with some lusty 4s and some extras from us. Interspersed though through our bowling effort were several (I counted 5) dropped catches, those 30 runs could have definitely been important. Archie and Ollie bowled well, Archie having a great little competition with the GX player who he bowled and then the GX player replied by hitting him for 6- great cricket! The last pair in on 288 with Jack and Barnaby needing to take 7 wickets in the last 4 overs for the win - too much to ask! GX ended up on 312 for a well deserved win.

What was pleasing was the team spirit we saw in the field, we took 6 wickets but it could have been 12. We will continue to work on all the core elements required for cricket, committed fielding, catching, accurate bowling and that when batting you cannot score if you dont hit the ball!

thanks to Ian for umpiring and Steve for scoring - as always much appreciated
