Hot, hot, hot!

On a sweltering evening at the ever gorgeous Bledlow Ridge ground the Blast team took on Bledlow Ridge U9s. With sun cream, hats and lots of water to hand we batted first. Krish and Ollie opened up, both scoring well and with us only losing 1 wicket in the 4 overs the score had moved on to 222. Next up Casper and Max H, who looked after their wickets carefully but found getting the ball away tricky. I can just imagine Umpire Mike out there saying "watch the ball, wait for the ball, then hit the ball!" At 8 overs were were well placed on 234 though. Miles and Lewis were next in, Miles I thought had his best game both with bat and ball and hit well, Lewis overcame some nerves and got into it as well. The key is the team score keeps progressing and at 12 overs we were on 246. Next in were Deelan and Tom B, some good running and nice shots saw the score onto 271, although quite a lot of these were from wides. The final pair of Harvey and Henry (double H) and it was all going brilliantly with the score on 309 after 19 overs - until the last over. Harvey run out, but I blame his parents myself as he had to continually pull up his trousers where the string had fallen out - difficult to run when you are pulling up your trousers! and then Henry had a rush of blood and was bowled a couple of times. But we ended on 296 which is very respectable.

After some snacks and drinks provided kindly by Bledlow it was our turn in the field. Miles and Henry opened up. Miles took 3 wickets and Henry 1 in a strong opening pair. Max H and Krish then came on and continued where the first two had left off, with 3 more wickets to fall, 2 for Krish and 1 for Max. Tom B and Harvey next up. Good tight bowling from Harvey, and Tom doing his best to get it down straight the wickets dried up a bit but the score was still manageable. Lewis and Ollie on next, and much like the pair before them no more wickets but runs managed. Our final bowling pair of Deelan and Casper came on with the score on 226, Casper got his first wicket which was great, and Deelan bowled well as usual. Hot but smiling they shook hands and come off to some more well deserved drinks.

Many thanks to Umpire Mike and Scorer Perry - couldn't do it without them!

Still lots for us to work on, in all aspects of the game, but smiles a plenty is a a good start!
