Match Report

The U10Cs took on Chenies and Latimer last night. We took to the field with 7 girls in the team. Captain for the day Tilly won the toss and elected to bat. Evie and Krish got us off to a solid start with Krish hitting a lovely boundary in the 3rd over. Mishka and Matilda were next in. I was a little surprised when I saw Chenies bowler marking out his run up that started near the boundary rope! The girls batted admirably and importantly no wickets were lost in that period either. Jasmine and Daisy came in next and faced some very different bowling, lots of runs being added via extras and we moved on to 250 for no wicket. Katie and Tilly were next up and added runs to the score despite Katie being on the end of a very tight run out decision which I am sure she would have referred to the TV umpire if there had been one! Thomas and Miles came in with the score at 259 looking for a final burst of runs to close the innings. They got us up to a healthy total of 279 for 2 off our 20 overs. As a team I thought we batted sensibly, no kamikaze run outs, patient batting when facing the good balls and looking for runs where we could.

Miles and Krish opened the bowling, getting us off to a great start, both taking wickets and Krish also contributing with a direct hit for a superb run out. Katie kept wicket in this opening period and did a great job keeping to some pacey bowling. Mishka, off the back of some lovely bowling at training on Sunday then came into the attack with Tilly. After taking 1 wicket each in their overs Chenies found themselves at 200 for 5 off 8 overs. An excellent start with the ball. Matilda and Daisy then came on to bowl and with her first ball Matilda took a lovely wicket cleaning bowling the opposition batsman. Daisy backed this up with some accurate bowling and Chenies were at 203 by the end of the 12th over. The chat in the field was that of a potential victory. Mindful that Chair of the Colts had forewarned me of some County batting to come I attempted to keep the kids focused on the task at hand!

Jasmine and Katie then joined the bowling attack, Krish (now keeping wicket) and Thomas both taking good catches off Jas’s bowling. Those 2 wickets plus another run out (details escape me – sorry!) left Chenies at 200 for 9 with 4 overs remaining. Evie and Thomas were tasked with closing the innings against a strong batting pair and did a great job, Tilly contributing an excellent run out in the final over to help restrict Chenies to 229 for 10 off their 20 overs.

A comprehensive win in the end and a genuine all round team effort with everyone contributing. A special mention though for all action Krish contributing a truly all round performance, taking a wicket with his bowling, a run out, a catch behind the stumps and runs at the top of the order. Well done Krish. Krish’s reward is to be rotated out of the team! I will leave you to explain that Vish!!
