It was disappointment for the 2nd team as we were edged out in a close game by Teddington. Having been put in to bat, we struggled on a difficult wicket that had all the classic early season demons. Despite salvaging a respectable total of 179, it was always going to be a struggle to restrict the home side and in the end we were about twenty runs short.
Beaconsfield lost the toss and were put in to bat, but after some initial promise, quick wickets saw us slump to 20/3. The bright spark in the innings though, was Luc Walker. Keeping his head despite losing partners at regular intervals, Luc batted with class and composure to post a very impressive 70. It salvaged a respectable total from what could've been a disastrous score, leaving us 179 to defend.
The bowlers made a valiant effort of doing just that, but despite some economical bowling from Denzil Owen and some excellent pressure put on by the spinners, Teddington made it home with 10 balls to spare. There was hope of salvaging a draw up until the last few overs, but the home team's batsmen kept their nerve well and found the boundary at the crucial moments.
Despite the defeat though, the team can be proud of a valiant effort, particularly in the field as there was a long period spent with just ten men on the pitch. With some improvement in the batting and maybe some nicer pitches, there's plenty of potential for more positive results in the coming weeks.
Man of the match: Luc Walker - For a classy knock of 70 and for battling on in the field despite
