Through last minute negotiations our new captain, Hitesh Babhania, arranged a friendly away at Maidenhead and Bray CC.
We batted first and after initial early loses young Toby Slater steadied a rocking ship with a Boycottesque innings of disciplined defence and put the team back onto building a respectable score. Supported by Ashley Bishop in a 70 ball partnership the pair put on 23 important runs. Chris Campbell had an explosive innings with a 6 off the first ball scoring 23 off 24 balls and Suhail Khan knocked 27 off 27 invigoured by his new lucky 3rd's cap but popped a hamstring. Our new wicket keeper batsman, Greg McMahon also added 8 useful runs.
In the field great displays of fielding were put on by all the team where new player Terry Paskins displayed great athleticism and courage. Jim Slater took two wickets and two awesome catches. Chris "the scramble" Campbell took two wickets with 5 overs for 16 runs. Mohammed Johir Islam opened the bowling and gained two wickets and a run out. Skipper Hitesh bowled a very economical spell including 31 dot balls with a rate of 1.3 runs an over. Amar Babhania, U13, also bowled a really important 11-1 of 5 overs. Man of the match Toby bowled nagging spin with 13 dots and a run out.
Special mention to Harry for a great display in the field and making up our team in his debut senior match and to Greg who kept wicket immaculately. He displayed immense knowledge of his craft and an aggressive attitude to wicket taking which will undoubtedly win us matches this season.
