Beaconsfield U11B v Farnham Common Div 3

Beaconsfield lost the toss and Farnham Common (FC) decided to have a bat first. We were fielding a mixed team from U8s through to U11s and therefore after some introductions (so the boys knew each other’s names) we took to the field.

Our bowling was pretty good all the way through, with very few wides bowled and plenty on target on a pitch that “offered a bit” to the spinners and seamers. Tilak, with a very relaxed action, produced some lovely balls and deservedly took 2 wickets. Whilst the boundaries were short the tight bowling kept FC to just taking singles most of the time. Freddie C demonstrated his complete bag of tricks by bowling his 1st over of leg spin, then coming in for a 2nd over of pace and bowling a “rip snorter” that took off stump clean away! He also ended with 2 wickets. During this time Alfie Rhodes, fielding down at long leg demonstrated a misspent youth (he is only 9 now!) by hitting the stumps with direct throws not once but twice to gain run outs as well. With this level of commitment in the field FC ended their 20 overs on 204.

After a quick drinks interval it was BCC into bat. With a low score such as this to defend FC knew they had to take wickets, which they did so steadily through our innings to keep the game in the balance. Indeed at the half way point BCC were still on about 200. With boys being boys no matter how many times someone like me says “block the straight ones and hit the wide ones” it doesn’t seem to always go in! Despite early wickets falling there was some nice batting by Ben, Tilak and Freddie C, with Jasper top scoring with 19. This pushed our score up towards 239 and a good win for BCC.

We had a number of debuts for the side, so many thanks to Rohan, Alfie, Jack and Tilak who all performed really well.

I must say many thanks to the FC team, coaches and parents. We were all made to feel very welcome, the boys were great fun and very sporting to our team (very rare a batsman says well bowled to the bowler!).
