Another wonderful evening of watching cricket. Beautiful weather in a lovely ground at Flackwell Heath..
After frantic phoning we managed to divert all the team from going to the wrong club! Thanks Jo for all the phone calls to the lost parents. Also a huge thank you to the Catherwood-Smith U10 twins for turning up to replace an ill player and the good grace shown when we only needed one of the boys.
Beaconsfield won the toss and decided to bat first.
Ted and Padraig opened and scored a great 33 without loss of wickets giving the team a solid start. Josh and Rory CS followed and batted well adding to the total aided by High Wycombe struggling in the field. We then stalled and lost 7 wickets in 7 overs with some fantastic bowling by the opposition. Over to James Mason and Toby to try and add to the score in the final few overs. Can they do it? yes they can!! Beaconsfield finished 276/7 after 20 overs.
James Mason 30/1, Ted 24 not out, Padraig 9 not out.
James Barrett and Padraig opened the bowling and we bowled well as a team keeping the High Wycombe total low. Thomas Bartlett scored an amazing hat trick in the 7th over, hitting the stumps twice and forcing a catch. It looked like Beaconsfield were cruising to an easy win with the opposition only scoring 229 runs before the final pair came in to bat. Attish came in and started hitting boundaries on practically every ball including a 6 that took 5 people a considerable time to retrieve from the bushes. It was so close that High Wycombe only needed 9 runs from the last 2 balls which, with Attish on strike, was easily achievable. Fantastic fielding by Beaconfield allowed Ted to run the batsmen out on the last 2 balls resulting in a tense but memorable win for Beaconsfield.
Thomas 3/17 Josh 2/9 James Mason 2/14 and additional wickets from Padraig and James Murray.
