A great day for cricket!

On a beautiful, sunny morning Beaconsfield U8s fielded two sides in the 6-side tournament at Wooburn.

With one over bowled per player, batting in pairs for 2 overs each and scores starting on 100 (you lose 5 runs if you lose a wicket) it is fast and furious cricket!

With a prompt start at 9.30am the morning ahead looked like fun. The Bears team were first up with a tough game against Coleshill. We fielded first and performed well but one particular Coleshill batsman enjoyed the short mid wicket boundary and Coleshill posted a very competitive score over 150. We batted well but couldn't find the boundary as often and ended on 120 ish.

Wth the quick turnarounds the Panthers were up next against Little Marlow. We batted first, took some time getting into the game (I think I will put that down to a late night out on the tiles for a couple of the team !) but finished on 150 or so. We bowled well and managed to keep taking wickets to pave the way to a good win.

The Bears had a chance to get their first win against Farnham Common, and having the experience of the first game under their belt they put in a really good performance to stretch ahead and records their first win, which set up situation for them to win their 3rd group game to move into semi final.

But they had to wait whilst the Panthers put in their performance of the day against Cookham Dean. With catches on the boundary by Tom Etchell, Ariyan with 2 direct hits for run outs it was an excellent performance. Ben Taylor then hit his straps with the bat hitting a number of sixes, two out of two for the Panthers.

The Bears last opponent was Winchmore Hill, and whilst the boys put in a really good performance it wasn't quite enough to see them through against a good side. Everyone hopefully enjoyed the experience.

The Bears team were Harvey Maynard, Tom Braganza, Tom Marsh, Zaki Meer, Henry Czekalowski and Miles Hodges. My thanks to Mike Hodges for managing the team and to all the parents for the noisy support!

And so it was to the Panthers to finish their group matches against Wooburn, the hosts. In an extremely tight game that could have gone either way it again came down to the last couple of overs with the Panthers defending 140 ish. Ariyan took 2 bowled wickets in his over to manage to bring us through. We sneaked through winning by 5 runs.

So the Panthers moved through to the semi final, against the Coleshill team that had beaten the Bears in the group game. We batted first and did really well, only losing 1 wicket and scoring over 150. We were well ahead during the first 3 overs, but Coleshill scored strongly in the middle overs bringing it level. With Ariyan and Ben bowling our last 2 overs we still had a good chance to win but balls bounced over the top of every stump but didn't hit them! We had narrowly lost the match by 4 runs, but overall cricket was the winner!

The Panthers team were Archer Davies, Ariyan Flora, Aaron Johal, Ben Taylor, Max Hall and Tom Etchell. Well done to everyone.

A really well organised morning by Wooburn!

We have some friendlies against Coleshill next Sunday, so a chance for a quick return match!

Cheers

Martin
