Match report – Sunday 10th July BCC U8s v Coleshill

On Sunday two BCC teams, the Bears and the Panthers took on two Coleshill teams in six a side games.

Steve very kindly has written a match report for the Panthers (Max H, Zaki, Max B, Ollie M, Henry C, Kingsley)
Game 1 felt like a bit of a warm-up event. Scoring proved difficult, because of the number of wides bowled by both sides and the rather slow outfield after the morning rain.
Henry won the toss and elected to field. Highlights of our bowling included Kingsley, Olly and Max B getting wickets (with Kingsley pulling off a great catch in the last over). Coleshill were pinned back to 108 (they start on 100)
Max B and Henry opened the batting, getting the team off to a good start with a 4 and a number of singles. Olly and Zaki followed up well, not losing a wicket, even after Zaki was struck on the head by a beamer (luckily no damage was done)!! Max H and Kingsley finished the innings off well and the team scored a respectable 127.

Game 2 was a much more polished affair, with fewer wides and more scoring shots from both sides.
We bowled first again, with Henry pinning back their openers with a series of dot balls and Kingsley following with a wicket. Next up to bowl was Olly, who had a miracle over – a hat-trick maiden, with the stumps flying out of the ground!! Max H got a further wicket, before Max B and Kingsley (covering for Zaki, who had to leave) finished off the bowling. Coleshill scored 96.
Our batting innings was very impressive, with no wickets lost, very good running and calling by all the batting pairs. Everyone got runs on the board and the team finished on 133.

The Bears (Ewan, Thomas E, Ben T, Roop, Edward, Deelan) also had two matches, they bowled first in both matches. The first match was very close, with only a few runs in it, but as with the Panthers everyone’s performance improved in the second game. BCC kept Coleshill to 121 in the first game, with everyone bowling well (although no hat tricks in the Bears game!). We batted steadily, but perhaps a bit nervously which left us needing 5 runs over the last 2 overs. We kept our heads and sneaked through.
The 2nd game was a real pleasure to watch, both sides learned from the first game and in particularly the running between the wickets was excellent. Despite Coleshill scoring more than the first game BCC were always in the game and managed to win by 13 runs.

Great fun had by all, and many thanks to Coleshill for hosting us despite the dodgy weather!
