U10A snatch victory from jaws of defeat

Beaconsfield batted first and posted a relatively modest 264 after some very accurate bowling from Gerrards Cross. Beaconsfield had a difficult task of defending this total and the fielding was a bit panicked at times and many wides, overthrows and missed run outs resulted. However the team did continue to take wickets through the inning. When the last pair came in they needed 30 to win. Jake Wilson and Eisa Saba were sharing the "bowling at the death" responsibility. The last pair were 2 talented batsmen and put on those 30 runs quickly such that the scores were tied with 3 balls remaining. Jake Wilson was bowling the final over and his head had started to drop after being hit for 4 to tie the scores. But in an extraordinary turn of events Jake took 2 wickets (bowled) in 2 balls and a final ball runout saw Beaconsfield home by 17 runs. The value of straight bowling and sharp fielding was keenly felt and some lessons learnt. Well done in the end!
