The boys return home with plate in hand as RUNNERS UP in the tournament! The tournament win went to Wendover Lions after a nail biting final (Wendover 249; BCF 235).
The strategy was simple - win every game and do whatever it takes to stop a boundary - and despite some close finishes the boys executed to plan in the group stages:
Cublington 235; BCF 237
Winchmore Hill 237; BCF 239
Wendover Eagles 221; BCF 264
Batting second for each game of the group stage, the pairings worked their magic. Benen and Thomas eased the pressure by getting each innings off to brilliant starts, followed by continued, reliable and steady builds by Saul and Panshul and the calm and consistent closing pairing of Miles and George to seal the final runs.
Bowling was disciplined with very few wides and no balls and a steady flow of wickets especially when needed. The strength of the team’s all round capability shone through.
The tide unfortunately turned in the final with the boys for the first time batting first and on an unfamiliar pitch, which led them to place greater reliance on running between the wickets. Intelligent gains were made however with quick runs and fewer boundaries whilst facing strong opposition batting and bowling.
Umpires awarded well deserved match balls at the end of each game to Miles for inspired fielding and Saul for his destruction of the middle stump in the group stages, and Miles for his deadly precision taking a much needed 2 wickets in the closing over of the final. Fantastic recognition.
A proud day and fun atmosphere amongst the boys and the parent spectators plus plenty of nerve-racking final overs to excuse a G&T or 2 that afternoon.
Well done all.
