4. Junior Cricket - Behaviours

Match and Practice behaviour

what we would like to expect from our players, parents and what you can expect from us

From the players:

Supportive of their team mates: congratulating when things go well, picking them up if mistakes are made, not running them out to get strike, not complaining when catches are dropped;
Supportive of the opposition: congratulating good shots, not talking when bowler running up;
Supportive of the coaches: listening and engaging in what is being said;

Teamwork: understanding that everyone has a role to play, this is not an individual sport;

Concentration: when fielding remembering their own field position, be aware of where the ball is and their role;
Concentration: when batting remembering that they need to be aware at BOTH ends, not just facing;

Enjoyment when both practicing and in matches: it has got to be fun! Playing with a smile on your face even when things aren’t going well!

From the parents / guardians:

Encouragement: to praise the right behaviours, both in improvements in technique and in teamwork you see

Supportive of the coaches: if you disagree with us come to us first please rather than tell your child directly that we are wrong, sometimes there are miscommunications.
Supportive of the players: both Beaconsfield and the opposition. They will all make mistakes. Do not analyse them, support them.

Restraint: resisting the urge to offer advice from the sidelines to your son, daughter or other players. The key to them learning at this age is to make mistakes, in a safe environment. If you have any concerns please voice them directly to one of the coaching team

From the coaches:

Encouragement
: to praise the right behaviours, both in improvements in technique and in behaviours we expect to see

Guidance
: in technique and also in behaviours

Consistency & fairness: whilst we will encourage and praise the right behaviours, we will not allow the wrong behaviours either. We will approach this by:

  • Firstly speaking to the player themselves in relation to their behaviour and requesting that this ceases

  • Secondly speaking to the parent / guardian regarding the behaviour and requesting support in ensuring the behaviour ceases

We are very proud of the sporting behaviour that our players demonstrate and therefore it is highly unlikely that the situation will ever arise, but if the above does not result in a change in behaviours, and these continue then the club reserves the right to suspend membership for a defined period.
